Specializing in dermatology and aesthetics, Dr. Shawe founded Skin Smart Dermatology in 2002 to put her philosophy of “cosmetically elegant” skin care into practice.
Having created a full-service dermatology practice, she assures her patients that they will receive the most up-to-the minute, innovative treatments for all of their skin care needs. Born in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Dr. Shawe’s exposure to the world of beauty and skin care came at a young age. While receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University, she worked for the world renowned Paul Mitchell. She spent four years with the famed hair care company, helping coordinate their beauty and hair shows, “Super Hair”, throughout the United States.
While working for Paul Mitchell and attending Columbia University, she also earned her cosmetology license, enabling her to start her own company, “Sweet Toby Henna”. This vegetable-based hair dye was imported from Persia and distributed to hair salons throughout the United States and Canada.
After four years at Paul Mitchell and receiving her degree at Columbia University, Dr. Shawe attended medical school in Lille, France. While in France, she learned the importance of quality skin care products and state-of-the-art ingredients, which can now be found in her beloved Skin Smart Skin Care Line. It was during medical school in France that she also met her husband and business partner, Dr. Samy Badawy.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude, Dr. Shawe completed six years of training at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. Her degree is in both internal medicine, as well as dermatology.
Educating patients and offering the very best in skin care services, she is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.
Prior to founding Skin Smart Dermatology & Skin Care Center with Dr. Badawy, Dr. Shawe was an Associate Professor of Dermatology at MCP-Hahnemann University Hospitals and saw patients in Flourtown and Roxborough.
Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body. Dermatology is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.
Happily married, Dr. Shawe and her husband have three children. She enjoys relaxing with friends and family. She also enjoys spending time in beautiful Mendocino County, where she maintains a dermatology clinic in rural Ukiah, California.
