  • Causes and Resolution of Heel Pain

Heel Pain is one of the most common conditions Podiatrists see on a daily basis. Heel pain, also called Plantar Fasciitis and can be a very debilitating condition especially as time goes on left untreated.CAUSES:The plantar fascial band of tissue through long term micro-trauma leads to the tissue...

  • Can heel spur be cured?

Yes. The heel spur is not the issue as they do not cause pain. It is secondary to the plantar fascial band of tissue pulling away from the heel bone leaving an open space which fills in with bone and causes a spur. The damage to the plantar fascial band of tissue is causing the pain. Most therapies such as physical therapy, stretching, inserts and radial eswt can be helpful. But if you want to resolve the heel pain for good we specialize in the 1 time treatment using high intensity shock wave therapy, with a 98% 1st time treatment success rate. We are one of 12 in the US that specialize in this treatment and have been doing this for 27 years. This is the only non-surgical treatment for the resolution of heel pain. READ MORE

  • How long does it take for a cortisone shot to work on a heel spur?

Cortisone is a temporary internal band-aid to help decrease inflammation if the "heel spur" pain does not go away with normal stretching and change in shoe gear and possibly soft inserts. The heel spur does not hurt as it is secondary to the tearing of the plantar fascia away from the heel bone causing plantar fasciitis and subsequent infracalcaneal neuritis. I only recommend 1 steroid injection and it should decrease the pain within 1-2 days. If this does not last long then I recommend a non-surgical procedure called Orthotripsy to resolve the issues. Radial ESWT is a good form of physical therapy but requires multiple sessions whereas Orthotripsy is a one time procedure for the resolution of plantar fasciitis. I hope this answers your question. • How long is the treatment for a sprained ankle?

Depending on the type of sprain and the degree of damage dictates the recovery course. If it is a "simple sprain" then I recommend ice for the 1st 3 days and a compression anklet stocking for the first 3-4 weeks to control the swelling and allow the healing to continue. Always remove the compression sock at night to allow the foot and ankle to get enough blood flow when not walking. If the symptoms persist longer than a couple of weeks I recommend getting a steroid injection to control the inflammation and then look into regenerative medicine options such as PRP or amnio to restore the internal structures. Good luck. READ MORE

  • Can ankle ligament injury heal itself?

The short answer is no. It can scar back together depending on the size of the tear. Surgery is usually not indicated unless you have complete rupture with instability making it hard to walk because your ankle is floppy. Otherwise I recommend you look into regenerative medicine options which can repair the cartilage, ligaments, capsule and surrounding musculature. It's not covered by insurance but it works and I have been doing regen med for over 20 years with excellent results. READ MORE

  • What is the best way to heal a heel spur?

Orthotripsy. High intensity ultrasonic wave treatment, not radial eswt, which is physical therapy. No other procedure compares to this 1 time treatment for the resolution of plantar fasciitis or achilles tendonitis. No surgery, no time off work or activities. Not covered by insurance but worth the money to get you back to your normal routine in days. READ MORE

  • Will my toe fracture heal on its own?

As long as the fracture is within 3-5mm of the bone it should heal uneventfully. If after 6 weeks there is still pain with walking or shoes then you should have it x-rayed for possible fusion of the fracture or removal of the fragment. READ MORE

  • What is the best treatment for heel spurs?

One treatment of High Intensity Ultrasonic Wave therapy. Not radial eswt which requires multiple sessions to help reduce your symptoms temporarily. Orthotripsy which is one treatment to resolve the calcification in the band of tissue called the plantar fascia. Heel Spurs themselves do not hurt, they are secondary to what is going on. steroid injections will weaken the band of tissue and can cause spontaneous rupture even though they offer short term relief. midohiofootandankle.com READ MORE

  • How painful is heel surgery?

Depending on what type of procedure you are having done dictates the amount of pain afterwards. Either way you are going under anesthesia and then will be on pain pills for 1-2 weeks minimum and have moderate to severe pain depending on your pain tolerance levels. I do not recommend elective foot or ankle surgery as I specialize in regenerative medicine options that work better and keep you on your feet and get you pain-free. For 27 years I have been advocating against foot surgery as it is archaic. Find someone who specializes in regenerative medicine options. They are not covered by insurance but are performed regularly across Europe with great success. Midohiofootandankle.com READ MORE

  • Is ankle joint surgery risky?

Every surgery has its own risks. Depending on the type of ankle surgery you are having dictates the degree of risks. Ankle arthroscopy to clean the joint has minimal risks but does hasten the arthritis formation in the joint over time. If there is bone chips that need to be removed then further post-op treatments will be needed. I specialize in regenerative medicine for most treatments instead of surgery. Good luck. READ MORE

  • Infected area under foot - wart?

Salicylic acid will cause a degradation of the skin giving a whitish appearance. However the area around the opening appears inflamed possibly from trying to cut the skin. Seek medical attention for an antibiotic pill as a topical will be insufficient. Call your family doctor and get an antibiotic. READ MORE

  • Will i always have a limp now

With cellulitis, one has to figure out the reason for the infection and afterwards the sequelae can lead to long term swelling which will make the leg feel heavy and can also cause numbness in the feet. Wearing compression stockings to control the swelling is of great benefit during the day and can reduce the symptoms. I would recommend a vascular study to check for any damage to the vessels and then the treatment can begin depending on the cause. The limp will eventually go away with strengthening exercises of the legs muscles. Try strengthening the thigh muscles doing exercises found on line and control the swelling. Good Luck. READ MORE

  • How can I fix my heel pain?

Try stretching, over the counter pain creams, inserts for your shoes, different shoes that offer more cushioning and finally if the pain persists then see a podiatrist for possible steroid injections, physical therapy but NEVER consider surgery. I specialize in Orthotripsy, a one time treatment for the resolution of chronic plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis. N o time off from work or activites. Go to midohiofootandankle.com to learn more. READ MORE

  • How can I relieve my heel pain?

If you have tried the traditional methods for plantar fasciitis or achilles tendonitis such as stretching, inserts, physical therapy, anti-inflammatories and possibly steroid injections (which I refer to as internal band-aids) and you still have pain, you may want to consider Orthotripsy. We have been specializing in the one time treatment for the resolution of heel pain for over 20 years with a 1st time treatment success rate of 92%. Go to our site and review the heel pain and regenerative medicine sections for further information. No need for surgery and no time off from work or activities. midohiofootandankle.com READ MORE

  • How long is recovery from a broken ankle?

Normally 8 weeks. I also recommend an ankle brace after the casting is this was used. Followed by a steroid injection to help decrease the pain and personally recommend regenerative medicine options to treat the ankle fracture after it has healed to restore the strength and structure. • Can massage fix ankle pain?

Any form of physical therapy including soft tissue massage, warm foot soaks with epsom salts, icy hot, compression socks and ankle braces can offer a mild form of comfort depending on the degree of damage to the joint. If all else fails you can try a steroid injection as a diagnostic tool and also consider regenerative medicine options before any type of surgery. READ MORE

  • Can a heel spur pain go away on its own?

Heel spurs do not hurt. It is the plantar fasciitis - inflammation of the ligament which is the foots shock absorber, or achilles tendonitis - which is the legs shock absorber that becomes inflamed from pulling away from the heel bone and begins to micro-tear that causes the pain. Heel spurs are secondary to the damage being caused from the over extension if the tissues. You can try stretching, inserts, icy hot and massage therapy. If all else fails to resolve the condition, never consider surgery. I recommend Orthotripsy to restore the flexibility and blood flow to the structure to resolve the issue. It's one treatment performed in the office and walk out in your shoes and go back to work and activities within 3 days. READ MORE

  • Does ankle dislocation need surgery?

Depends on the degree of damage from the dislocation. An MRI would be a great diagnostic tool to determine the damage to the area. If there are no overt signs of large fractures associated then I recommend regenerative medicine options instead of surgery which can restore the structure and function of the joint and allows you to continue to walk. READ MORE

  • When can I walk normal after ankle dislocation?

A complete ankle dislocation usually involves ligamentous strains or tears which require the use of immobilization with a cam walker or an ankle brace to stabilize the joint to allow healing to occur. Should one require surgical intervention I always recommend looking into regenerative medicine options 1st which can restore the joint to its previous structure and function without the need for surgery. READ MORE

  • Can you help with ankle arthritis?

I can. I practice regenerative medicine. And with either the use of whartons jelly or exosomes this can repair the damaged cartilage and return you to your activity without the need for surgery in the majority of cases. READ MORE

  • What is the best treatment for heel spur pain?

Heel spurs do not hurt. Its the plantar fascia, your foots shock absorber, that is being over stretched and requires Orthotripsy to rejuvenate the band of tissue. midohiofootandankle.com READ MORE
