Dr. Robert Walker is board-certified gastroenterologist and one of the founding partners of Crystal Run Healthcare, LLP, a large multispecialty group in the Hudson Valley, NY. He currently serves on the Board and is Medical Director of the Rockland County Division. As a Gastroenterologist, he specializes in disease of the liver, pancreas and intestinal tract. He treats and diagnoses conditions such as hepatitis, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, celiac, IBS, crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, colon polyps, and colon cancer prevention. Dr. Walker performs colonoscopy and endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, Bravo pH testing, and ERCP. Furthermore, Dr. Walker focuses on individualized care, treating each patient and diagnosis as unique to that person. Over the past several years, Dr. Walker has studied both integrative and functional medicine and has become a certified practitioner by the Institute for Functional Medicine. When asked why he pursued this additional training, he felt that he could offer more diagnostic and treatment options for many of his patients and offer a more whole person approach to their illnesses. Functional medicine attempts to determine the root cause of a patient’s illness and focuses on a patient –physician team approach, there is also a focus on lifestyles, nutrition, and exercise and looking for unusual causes of illness such as abnormalities in the patient’s genetic makeup, the microbiome, inflammation, mitochondrial function and energy among others. This approach has led to the improved health and overall wellness of many patients as compared traditional medicine alone.
