Well-versed in the field of neurology, Dr. Mebrahtu is the Director of Neurodiagnostic Medicine at South Shore Neurologic Associates, P.C., which he joined in 1991. Being an expert in peripheral neuropathy and neurophysiology, his areas of clinical expertise include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, strokes, seizures and dementia.
South Shore Neurologic Associates, P.C. is a comprehensive Neurologic care facility which is dedicated to alleviating the symptoms of neurological illness, neurological injury, and chronic pain through excellence in patient care, advocacy, service, education, and research. It has been providing neurologic care for people living in Suffolk County, Long Island since 1980. The practice expanded over the years to set standards in neurologic care on Long Island through research and innovative treatments while providing comprehensive and personal patient care at their offices in Islip, Patchogue, and Riverhead as well as affiliated hospitals.

Academically, Dr. Mebrahtu earned his medical degree from the State University of New York – Downstate in 1986. His postgraduate training included a medical internship at the New York Medical College and a neurologic residency at State University of New York-Downstate, where he was Chief Resident. Finally, he completed his fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disease at Weill Cornell New York Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery.
With over 35 years of experience, the doctor is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
Among his professional affiliations, he is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
