Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Erik Lawrence Lum, who serves patients in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Lum is a board-certified nephrologist who is affiliated with UCLA Health in Los Angeles, California. UCLA Health is among the most comprehensive and advanced health care systems in the world. Their mission is to deliver leading-edge patient care, research, and education. 

More specifically, Dr. Lum is affiliated with UCLA hospitals, including The Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Lum earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at UCLA Medical Center, followed by his fellowship in nephrology at Stanford University. Dr. Lum is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and a Fellow of the National Kidney Foundation. 

Dr. Lum is board-certified in both internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys: including the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. A nephrologist, like Dr. Lum, is also called a kidney doctor. They commonly treat chronic kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease, acute renal failure, kidney stones, and high blood pressure.
