He has dedicated his practice to the diagnosis and treatment of hand and upper extremity conditions in all age groups. He spends time educating his patients about their medical condition, stating “listening to each patient’s concerns and helping them return faster to a pain free and normal, productive lifestyle is what I strive to achieve everyday.”

Previously serving as Chief of Surgery at Emory Adventist Hospital, his current hospital affiliations include WellStar Kennestone Hospital, WellStar Cobb Hospital, WellStar Douglas Hospital, WellStar Paulding Hospital, and WellStar Windy Hill Hospital.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate education, with honors, at the University of Florida. He earned his medical degree at Meharry Medical College, where he graduated with high honors and was inaugurated as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society for his superior scholastic achievements. He then completed his residency in general surgery at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, and was selected from among his colleagues as Resident of the Year for his remarkable care and compassion toward patients.

Following residency training, Dr. Patel pursued a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Connecticut. There, under the direction of Dr. Kirk Watson, founder and former president of the New England Hand Society, he gained immense experience in hand and microsurgery. 

During his fellowship, Dr. Patel presented his research at several local and national meetings, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the New England Hand Society. Furthermore, He has been acknowledged in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and has committed himself to many professional organizations.

A member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, he is board-certified in general surgery and surgery of the hand by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.

In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his family. His current hobbies include playing basketball and racquetball, cooking, and traveling.
