Dr. Suraj Alva is a board-certified General Surgery training at Yale and a fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical center. As a practicing colon and rectal surgeon, his expertises in colorectal surgery include the field of advanced laparoscopic and robotic colon and rectal surgeries, colon and rectal cancer surgery especially sphincter preserving, surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease (crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), diverticulitis, transanal resection of tumors, anorectal disease, incontinence (sacral nerve stimulators), and colonoscopy.

He is currently a partner at Associated colon and Rectal Surgeons which is part of Atlantic healthcare system. He operates out of Overlook Medical Center and Hackensack Meridian Health JFK Medical Center. Associated Colon and rectal surgeons is one of the oldest practices in the United States established by the late Dr. Eugene Salvati. Dr Suraj Alva along with Drs. Bertram T Chinn, Joseph R Notaro, Kirsten B Wilkins and Jed Calata are a premier colorectal surgery group in the state of NJ

Dr. Suraj Alva is a member of the American College of surgeons (ACS) and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS). He is part of various committees at ASCRS and is also actively involved in the training of the next generation of colon and rectal surgeons.
