“I chose to be an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor because I like helping people with such essential senses and aspects of life — hearing, breathing, and smelling. I believe the care of a child should always be in the context of his or her family and culture, and I strive to create strong connections and lasting relationships with all my patients and families. Every encounter with a child and their family is special” expressed the doctor.

To provide care for all the reconstructive and hearing rehabilitative needs of children with microtia and canal atresia, Dr. Truong oversees a dedicated Microtia and Atresia Clinic. She also offers her services at Stanford Children’s Health Cleft and Craniofacial Center, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Specialty Services – Los Gatos, Mary L. Johnson Specialty Services, and Stanford Ear Institute.

Some of the conditions that she treats include ankyloglossia (tongue-tie), branchial cleft cyst, head and neck tumors and masses, laryngomalacia/tracheomalacia, lymphadenopathy, microtia, obstructive sleep apnea, otitis media, preauricular cysts, sinusitis, stridor and noisy breathing, thyroglossal duct cyst, tonsil and adenoid hypertrophy, and vascular malformations.

A Bay Area Native, Dr. Truong received her Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with honors. She then went on to attend medical school at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine in 2003.

After earning her medical degree, Dr. Truong completed her internship in general surgery and her residency in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery at Stanford University in 2004 and 2008, respectively. She then did her fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Stanford Children’s Hospital in 2009.

Years later, in 2017, Dr. Truong completed post-graduate training in auricular reconstruction, microtia repair, in Paris, France with the world renown plastic surgeon, Dr. Francoise Firmin.

Board-certified in both otolaryngology and complex pediatric otolaryngology, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. It is a non-profit organization with the mission of ensuring professional standards in this field since 1924.

On a professional level, Dr. Truong is an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the International Society for Auricular Reconstruction.

Her research has explored the social impact of microtia, 3D modeling in microtia repair, image analysis of reconstructive outcomes, the treatment of complex vascular anomalies, and pediatric sleep apnea.

Otolaryngology is a medical specialty which is focused on the ears, nose, and throat. It is also called otolaryngology-head and neck surgery because specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. An otolaryngologist is often called an ear, nose, and throat doctor, or an ENT for short.

With a love for the art and technical aspects of reconstructive surgery, Dr. Truong believes that the biggest reason for her success is that she loves what she does and caring for children with these diagnoses.

A firm believer in the importance of respect for all the diversity of humankind, she is proficient in Spanish and conversational in Vietnamese languages. Her personal interests include musical theater and Karaoke, and she is a volunteer with Smile Cambodia and Hugs Foundation.
