Pain Control After Orthopaedic Surgery
Achievement of a good outcome after an orthopaedic procedure such as knee, hip or shoulder replacement, fracture repair, rotator cuff repair, or hip arthroscopy requires that the extremity moves immediately after surgery. We call this “early mobilization”. But, when the patient has pain,...
Surgical Volume Matters
Many, many factors come together to obtain an excellent outcome for the patient after orthopedic surgery. Patient expectations and attitudes, and medical diseases all play a role. However, the skill of the surgeon also plays a significant role. Research has shown time and time again that if a...

About knock knee
Most children with "knock knees" will grow out of it at 6-7 years old. By that time if he hasn't, then take him to an Orthopaedic surgeon. Hope it helps! READ MORE
How do you treat an anterior shoulder dislocation?
It depends on your age. In people in their 20s and 30s, the chance that the shoulder will dislocate again is very high. Therefore surgery is performed to stop the ball from coming out of the socket. Usually, the surgery is arthroscopic and outpatient and has a high success rate. Make sure your surgeon is skilled in the procedure. In people 50 and above, the shoulder usually will not come out again, and therefore nonsurgical treatment is used. Hope it helps! READ MORE
Can a chiropractor help with knee tendonitis?
Usually not. Manipulation will not help knee tendonitis. It is best to see an Orthopaedic specialist or a physical therapist where medication plus ultrasound treatments have the best results. Hope it helps! READ MORE
Can you correct scoliosis in kids?
Bracing may slow down the progression of the curve of scoliosis. I would recommend that you see an Orthopaedic Surgeon who is a spine specialist. The curve can be measured and monitored over time. He may recommend a brace or perhaps even surgery. Don't delay, because the earlier you start treatment, the better your chance of success. Hope it helps!! READ MORE
Why does my shoulder hurt after chiropractic adjustment?
No, that is not normal. STOP having adjustments on your shoulder, I have never heard of that, and it is unclear to me what benefit it could have to you. Your shoulder probably hurts because you have rotator cuff tendonitis. I recommend you see an Orthopaedic surgeon for evaluation and treatment. Hope this helps!! Dr. Bose READ MORE
What should I do to fix tennis elbow?
We first try to treat the patient with a combination of stretching, anti-inflammatory medication, a tennis elbow strap that can be bought at any sporting goods store, and injections. If after a 3 to 6 month period of time that treatment fails there is surgery to fix the problem. And Orthopedic Surgeon as well equipped to do this for you. Hope it helps!! READ MORE
Is scoliosis surgery life threatening?
Any surgery can be life-threatening. There are always risks with general anesthesia and a surgical procedure. However, odds are very low that a life-threatening event would occur, probably less than 0.5%. Be sure to ask your surgeon this question, and he or she will go over all of the risks and benefits of the surgery with you. Hope it helps!! Dr. Bose READ MORE
Does strengthening the lower back help with sciatica?
When your back is hurting and there is pain down your leg, don't do exercises. However, when sciatica settles down, then yes back strengthening exercises will help! Hope it helps! Dr. Bose READ MORE
Does acupuncture help elbow pain?

How bad does a bunion have to be for surgery?
There are a lot of technical conditions, but the bottom line is this: if the patient has pain that stops them from doing normal activities, if the pain wakes you up at night, if you have to take pain meds for the bunion pain or if wearing shoes is painful due to the deformity, then it is time. IF you have 2 of these 4, then it is time for surgery. Hope this helps!! READ MORE
Can a chiropractor help with chronic wrist pain?
Probably not. I would recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon who is a specialist in "hand" surgery. They will have much more expertise in the wrist than any chiropractor. Hope it helps! Dr. Bose READ MORE
When should I be concerned about swollen ankles?
Yes, you should. If both ankles are swollen and there has been no trauma (twisting) then it may be a sign that your body is retaining fluid or your heart is not pumping properly. See your family doctor or cardiologist asap. Hope it helps!! READ MORE
Can you recover from ACL tear without surgery?
The short answer is no. Without an ACL, most patients' knees will "give out" on them while playing any type of cutting sports (rapid changes in direction). This giving out is painful, and will further damage the knee. You can elect to give up playing sports that involve cutting if you want. However many studies show knees without an ACL get arthritis much quicker than normal knees. For these reasons, most Orthopaedic surgeons recommend reconstruction of a torn ACL except in older patients. Hope it helps!! Dr. Bose READ MORE
Should I go to a chiropractor for a pulled muscle?
Sure, however, a physical therapist would be a better option in my opinion. The PT can provide ultrasound, massages, stretching that some chiropractors don't do (however, some might). Remember, rest is the best treatment for a true pulled muscle. Hope it helps!! Dr. Bose READ MORE
Muscle injury or DVT?
You need to go to the doctor and have an ultrasound to rule out DVT now. Do not delay. READ MORE
How can I get rid of ankle pain?
That is a difficult question to answer without me personally examining your ankle. The best answer I can give you is to make an appointment to see an Orthopaedic surgeon and get your ankle evaluated. The doctor will figure out the cause of your pain and treat it. Hope it helps!! READ MORE
What do chiropractors do for plantar fasciitis?
I am not certain, but I do not think chiropractors treat plantar fasciitis. This condition resolves best with a combination of medication, physical therapy for stretching, a brace, and possibly an injection. Therefore, I would see an orthopaedic surgeon or a podiatrist. READ MORE
How long does it take to recover from ACL tear without surgery?
This is America and you don't have to have your ACL fixed, but without an ACL a knee gets meniscus tears, and chondral lesions, which lead to early arthritis of the knee. Without surgery, 4-6 weeks, but the knee may be unstable or "give out" on you. Hope it helps!! Dr. Bose READ MORE
What kind of surgery is done for bulging disc?
The answer is none. Bulging discs are normal. MRI studies have shown that people who have no pain whatsoever have bulging discs. 30% of people in their twenties and thirties with no pain. As we get older, that percentage goes up. Just because you have back pain, it doesn't mean that it is coming from that bulging disc. It could be due to other things. The best treatment is core and lower back strengthening exercises, NSAIDS and possibly and epidural block. Be sure you are seeing and Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon who specializes in back conditions. Hope it helps!! Dr. Bose READ MORE
Scared of ALS?
I hope to reassure you that it is very unlikely that you have ALS. Most likely your symptoms are caused by muscle fatigue of the muscles of the thumb or perhaps low potassium as a result of sweating. Due to either the muscle will spasm and it will "get stuck" due to spasm. Try to hydrate with an electrolyte drink before yoga to see if that helps. Hope it helps!! Dr. Bose READ MORE
