Get to know Podiatrist Dr. Matthew W. Cerniglia, who serves patients in Saginaw, Texas.

Dr. Cerniglia has quickly built a reputation in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as a caring and gifted podiatrist. He is the Founder of Ankle and Foot Institute of Texas in Saginaw, Texas. 

From routine checkups to treatments for surgery, Ankle and Foot Institute of Texas is dedicated to providing world-class foot & ankle services with a hometown compassion. Dr. Cerniglia and his staff are dedicated to using the latest research and advanced technology to deliver complete ankle and foot care to people throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.

Considering it his calling to help people of all ages to recover and return to their active lifestyles, Dr. Cerniglia has extensive training in the diagnosis and management of injuries and diseases of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system (nerves, muscles, bones, and joints) of the ankle and foot. His comprehensive knowledge in the highly specialized areas of podiatric medicine also includes exceptional care for the most common ailments such as ingrown nails, warts, heel pain, diabetic wound care, and ankle sprains.

Combining clinical expertise with a compassionate treatment philosophy, he treats the whole person instead of simply treating the affected area. His expertise allows the ability to create individualized treatment plans utilizing leading edge skills and techniques. 

With a broad education background, Dr. Cerniglia completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University. He furthered his postgraduate training at Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating Cum Laude with his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. He later completed a highly intensive two-year surgical residency at Hillcrest Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, one of the country’s leading podiatric medical training facilities.

The doctor is board-certified in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery & foot surgery through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). The ABFAS strives to protect and improve the health and welfare of the public by advancing the art and science of foot and ankle surgery.

In addition to being a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Texas Podiatric Medical Association, he is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and  Ankle Surgeons, a Fellow of the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Microsurgical Orthoplastic Society.

One of less than 1% of all foot and ankle surgeons in the world who performs and specializes in total ankle replacement surgery, Dr. Cerniglia’s sub-specialties include pediatric and adult flatfoot reconstruction & repair of traumatic injuries to the ankle and foot. He was the first podiatric surgeon to implant the In-Bone Total Ankle Replacement system, which now is currently owned and operated through Wright Medical.

In the face of changing healthcare, the art of practicing medicine has become more of a business rather than simply wanting to heal our fellow men and women. Dr. Cerniglia has vowed never to succumb to these new principles and will never deny treatment to any patients in need of his services. While taking care of the local citizens in need, he also teaches ankle and foot surgical reconstruction to medical students, orthopedic residents, and practicing pediatric orthopedists.
