Dr. Kota received his medical degree from Osmania Medical College in India in 1985. He then went on to undergo surgical training in Ireland and the United Kingdom and worked as a Surgical Registrar in General Surgery. He then came to the U.S. and complete his internship and General Surgery residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan in 1999, and the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2001.

Dr. Kota is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCSI). The RCSI is a professional association and educational institution that is responsible for the medical speciality of surgery throughout the island of Ireland.

Dr. Kota is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). The letters FACS after a surgeon’s name mean that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Kota is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). He also completed his recertification and maintains current certification by the American Board of Surgery. The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge in the field of surgery. Board certification by the ABS is a voluntary process that demonstrates a surgeon’s commitment to professionalism, lifelong learning, and quality patient care.
