Get to know Pediatric Ophthalmologist Dr. Jay Bernstein, who serves patients throughout the State of New Jersey.

A trusted physician, Dr. Bernstein practices pediatric ophthalmology and adult & child strabismus at Advocare Pediatric Ophthalmology Associates, with offices in Cedar Knolls, Westfield, and Fair Lawn, New Jersey. His clinical interests include botulinum toxin as an alternative to surgery and the use of local sedation for adult strabismus surgery.

In addition, they treat adults with eye muscle disorders. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Bernstein received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School, completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and underwent fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology/strabismus at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in pediatric ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Holding membership status, Dr. Bernstein is an active member of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section of Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is a past member of the executive board of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section of Ophthalmology.

In his professional experience, he volunteered as a pediatric ophthalmology consultant at both St Joseph’s School for the Blind, and Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Jersey.

With a passion for teaching, Dr. Bernstein teaches the pediatric residents from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey on pediatric ophthalmology through a rotation in his practice.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. Ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and may perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Happily married, Dr. Bernstein has two children.
