In order to further his training, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1979, and his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Boston University Medical Center in 1981.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

With a passion for teaching, Dr. Bass has served as a Professor of Medicine at the University of Florida since 1998.
