Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Roy J. Guse, who serves patients in Lufkin, Texas.

Dr. Guse is an adult reconstruction and joint replacement specialist & orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and complex foot and ankle surgery. He has been practicing in Lufkin, Texas at Dedicated Orthopedic Center of East Texas since 1997.

He brought to East Texas his extensive knowledge in joint replacement surgery as a result of his fellowship training at Hip and Knee Center of Fort Worth and thirteen years of orthopedic experience in the US Air Force. He spent his last 4 years at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio as the Orthopedic Deputy Department Chairman and Chief of the Adult Reconstruction Service. During that tenure, he served as the consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General on advanced joint reconstruction.

His specialities include adult reconstructive surgery, hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, shoulder replacement surgery, adult foot reconstructive surgery, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, adult and pediatric fracture care of both upper and lower extremities, hand surgery, carpal tunnel, trigger finger surgery and de Quervain’s surgery, ultrasound-guided steroid injections, as well as diagnostic X-ray in office.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Guse graduated with his undergraduate degree from Marquette University (Magna Cum Laude) and his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then went on to perform his internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Having conducted research on the osteoprogenitor effects of bone marrow cells and their ability to aid fracture healing, Dr. Guse is extremely interested in staying up-to-date with the latest orthopedic techniques to treat child and adult fractures.

He chose Lufkin, Texas to practice orthopedics because of the excellence and compassion of the medical community that is dedicated to offering the latest in cutting-edge joint replacement technology, such as direct anterior approach fluoroscopic-guided total hip replacement and the Oxford partial knee replacement (both of which shorten recovery time).
