Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Ademola Ladapo, who serves patients in New York, New York.
A fellowship-trained psychiatrist, Dr. Ladapo is the Deputy Director for Adult Inpatient Services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. He helped launch the first psychiatric ICU there, which provides mental care to those who need it most.
NYC Health + Hospitals has a team of over 300 mission-driven psychiatrists that are dedicated to providing the highest quality mental health care and substance use services to all New Yorkers. The psychiatrists provide patient-centered and culturally sensitive treatment to adults, children, and adolescents in 11 hospitals and dozens of Gotham Health Centers located across the city. Institutional academic affiliations with some of the nation’s premier medical schools also allow the psychiatrists to be involved in scholarly work and teach both medical students and residents as well as other trainees.
After a family tragedy in his native Nigeria, Dr. Ladapo was inspired to become a psychiatrist to help others with emotional and mental health issues. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of Ibadan College of Medicine in 1998, after which he relocated to the United States. He performed his internship in internal medicine at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in 2004, his residency in psychiatry at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in 2007, and his fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 2008.
Developing further interest in the mental health field, the doctor is board-certified in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Ladapo serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
