Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Craig Andrew Ternovits, who serves patients in Nashville, Tennessee. 

A board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Ternovits performs surgical procedures to treat conditions affecting the abdomen and related structures, like hernias or tumors. He can be found on staff at Meharry Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. 

Locally, he is affiliated with Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and TriStar Skyline Madison Campus. He also serves as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Surgery at Meharry Medical College.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School – Rosalind Franklin University. He then went on to perform his residency in surgery at Tulane University Medical Center, followed by his fellowship in advanced GI minimally invasive surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Dedicated to the profession of medicine, Dr. Ternovits is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Continuously advancing his efforts, he is an active member of the Society of Academic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Illinois State Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Tulane Housestaff Association, the Southern Medical Association, and the Association of Surgical Educators. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
