Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Physician, Dr. Thane Morgan, who serves patients in Amarillo, Texas

A leader in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Morgan sees patients at his private practice, Amarillo Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, in Amarillo, Texas. His practice offers medical and surgical treatment for conditions of the hip, knee, foot and ankle, upper extremities, as well as sports injuries.

Graduating with his medical degree in 1995 from Joe R & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dr. Morgan completed his orthopedic surgery residency at University of Texas Health Science Center. 

Dr. Morgan attained board certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. It is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

In addition to his work in private practice, Dr. Morgan can be found on staff at Quail Creek Surgical Hospital and BSA Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. He has been listed among Texas SuperDoctors every year since 2007 and is also the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award from vitals.com. 

Orthopaedic surgery or orthopaedics, is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise.
