Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Harry W. Buchanan IV, who serves patients in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

A seasoned ophthalmologist, Dr. Buchanan IV is affiliated with Lehigh Valley Health Network, working with patients in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

With a broad educational background, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Richmond in 1975, and received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1979. He then went on to complete his internship at Allentown Hospital and his residency in ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1983.

Subsequently, Dr. Buchanan IV completed his fellowship in cataract surgery at Wills Eye Hospital-Jefferson Medical School, as well as an additional fellowship in cornea surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. Ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and may perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
