Mississippi Baptist Medical Center (MBMC), Jackson’s first hospital, was opened as a clinic by two doctors in 1908. Today, its modern facilities include the Baptist Cancer Center and a six-level tower housing the Cardiovascular Center and Baptist for Women. With an emphasis on high quality care and compassion for patients and their loved ones, MBMC has earned numerous awards and certifications.
Prior to joining MBMC, Dr. Ohnmacht was the Chair of Robotic Surgery, Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery, and Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dallas, he completed his medical education at the University of Texas Houston Medical School. He then went on to complete his residency at the same educational venue and his fellowship in immunotherapy and surgical oncology at the National Institutes of Health. Wanting to further his education, he completed additional residencies in cardiothoracic surgery at the Mayo Clinic and at the University of Missouri, Columbia.
Dedicated to surgical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in thoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest.
Furthermore, he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Ohnmacht is an active member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
