Celebrating Over Two Decades of Exceptional Care in Danville, Martinsville and South Boston

Joseph M. Carbone, MD, a distinguished urologist and President of Southside Urology & Nephrology, has dedicated more than two decades to providing exceptional care to patients in the Danville, Martinsville, and South Boston areas. Since joining Southside Urology & Nephrology in 2000, Dr. Carbone has established himself as a leader in the field of urology, with a focus on advancing treatment options in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Carbone’s impressive educational background lays the foundation for his successful career. He graduated from Washington University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biochemistry and Philosophy, demonstrating a unique blend of scientific and ethical understanding. He continued his education at Washington University School of Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1993. Following his medical training, Dr. Carbone served as Chief Resident at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis in 1999 before completing a prestigious Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Neurourology, Urodynamics, and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine.

As a board-certified urologist, Dr. Carbone is recognized by the American Board of Urology in both Urology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. His commitment to ongoing education and professional development is reflected in his active memberships in several esteemed organizations, including the American Urological Association, the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction, and the Virginia Urological Society.

Under Dr. Carbone’s leadership, Southside Urology & Nephrology has become a cornerstone for comprehensive urological and nephrological care, offering cutting-edge treatments and a patient-centered approach. His affiliations with Sovah Health – Danville, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, and Sovah Health – Martinsville further enhance the quality of care available to patients across the region.

Dr. Carbone’s dedication extends beyond his practice.  He is passionate about educating future generations of physicians from both the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg and the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg as Clinical Professor.  He also lectures in the community on urological health and continues to participate in outreach programs aimed at improving awareness and understanding of urological conditions.
