A native of Egypt, Dr. Elkholy graduated with his medical degree from the University of Cairo Faculty of Medicine in 1986. After relocating to the United States, he began his residency in anesthesiology at Brooklyn/New York University Hospital in 1992, and was a resident at Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1993 to 1996. Finally, he completed his fellowship in pain management at the same educational venue in 1997.
With over 25 years of experience in the field, the doctor is board-certified in pain management and anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of OR anesthesiology and interventional/medical pain management.
Throughout his illustrious career, he served as an Assistant Professor (1997-2000) and Clinical Assistant Professor (2000-2002) at the Yale University School of Medicine, teaching residents and fellows pain management, anesthesia, and acupuncture. He also was the Director of the Pain Management Center at VA Hospital Yale University from 1997 through 2000.
