Get to know Neurologist Dr. Bryan Riggeal, who serves patients in Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr. Riggeal is a board-certified neurologist with advanced training in neuro-ophthalmology. He chose a career in neurology and neuro-ophthalmology because of his passion for helping patients who are suffering from neurologic disease. He feels that helping patients who have often gone for a long time without adequate diagnosis or treatment of their symptoms is very rewarding. 

The doctor’s compassionate nature and patient demeanor only aid in diagnosing conditions such as optic neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, double vision, and other neurologic conditions. His areas of expertise include optic neuritis, ischemic optic neuropathy, transient visual loss, abnormal eye movements, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. At present, he is affiliated with the Baptist Health network, more specifically: Baptist Neurology Group in Jacksonville, Florida. 

The physicians of Baptist Neurology Group are highly-qualified specialists and subspecialists in treating conditions of the spine, brain, and nervous system. Their goal is to restore health and function while optimizing the quality of life for patients and their families.

Born in Winter Haven, Florida, he earned his medical degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 2007. He then went on to complete his internship and residency at the same educational venue, serving as a chief resident in UF’s Department of Neurology. A year later, in 2012, he completed his fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he had an integral role in educating residents of neurology, neurosurgery, and ophthalmology.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, he is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. He is also affiliated with several hospitals in the local area, including Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville & Baptist Medical Center South. 

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. Happily married with children, Dr. Riggeal and his wife (Dr. Candice Riggeal, also a physician with Baptist Neurology) have been enjoying the great outdoors in Florida, including spending time at the beach, biking, and taking long walks. They also love spending time with their family and taking trips to Disney World with the little ones.
