Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Prasad S. Garimella, who serves patients throughout the State of Georgia.
Since 2004, Dr. Garimella has been part of Gwinnett Pulmonary & Sleep, providing comprehensive and compassionate care to patients throughout the state of Georgia. He specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with lung cancer, COPD, asthma, and sleep apnea. He has particular expertise in electro navigational bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscopy.
Gwinnett Pulmonary & Sleep was founded in 1983 by Lawrence Kaplan, M.D with a mission of providing the highest quality care in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep services and treatments to patients throughout Gwinnett County and areas north of Atlanta. Decades later, patient satisfaction remains a top priority and it shows every day. The team of board-certified physicians, as well as nurses and administrative personnel, is dedicated to improving lung health through a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disorders.
Originally from Atmakur, India, Dr. Garimella graduated with honors from Kurnool Medical College, subsequently completing his residency in internal medicine at Weiss Memorial Hospital, University of Chicago. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Cook County Hospital, and his fellowship in sleep medicine at Rush University Medical Center.
A Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (FAASM), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Well respected amongst his peers, Dr. Garimella is a Clinical Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the Georgia Campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also serves as the Chief of the Department of Medicine at Gwinnett Medical Center.
When asked “What do you want people to understand about the way you practice medicine?” he replies with his motto “Fundamental principle of Medicine is Love”.
Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.
When not busy with his patients, Dr. Garimella enjoys biking, practicing Taekwondo (he holds a black belt), and spending time with his family. He also enjoys mountain climbing, having climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Rainier in 2010.
