Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Steven G. Orshan, who serves patients in New Hyde Park, New York.

Being a fellowship-trained pulmonologist, Dr. Orshan’s areas of focus include pulmonary disease, critical care medicine, sleep medicine, and internal medicine. He is in practice with Northwell Health Physician Partners Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at New Hyde Park.

Licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania and New York, he is affiliated with Long Island Jewish Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital.

Long Island Jewish Medical Center is a clinical and academic hospital within the Northwell Health system. It is a 583-bed, non-profit tertiary care teaching hospital serving the greater New York metropolitan area.

North Shore University Hospital is a part of Northwell Health, New York State’s largest healthcare provider and private employer. It is a teaching hospital for the Donald & Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, offering residency programs, postgraduate training programs and clinical fellowships.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Orshan graduated with his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in 1981. He went on to serve his internship and residency in internal medicine at Kings County Hospital Center, followed by an additional residency at Philadelphia Heart Institute of the Presbyterian Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship in pulmonary disease at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

A Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

As for his academic title, Dr. Orshan serves as an Assistant Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.

Having been in practice for over four decades, Dr. Orshan is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2018) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018).
