Back in 1978, Dr. Williamson graduated with his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine at Rush University Medical Center in 1981.
Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), he is board-certified in both internal medicine and geriatric medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a medical specialty focused on providing care for the unique health needs of older adults. Geriatricians are primary care doctors who have additional specialized training in treating older patients. They can practice in outpatient settings, nursing facilities or hospitals.
With over 45 years of experience, Dr. Williamson has been the recipient of a Patients’ Choice Award (2016, 2015, 2014, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2011, 2010).
