Back in 1965, he earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed his internship at the Orange County Medical Center in 1966, before completing his residency in psychiatry and fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry at the LAC + USC Medical Center in 1968 and 1970, respectively.
