Dr. Smith is a board certified family physician with over 47 years of experience. He was affiliated with Providence Hospital in Washington D.C. until its closing in 2018. Founded in 1861, Providence Hospital was a 408-bed hospital and a member of Ascension Health, the largest non-profit healthcare organization in the United States. It was the longest continuously operating hospital and the last public hospital in the District. 

Dr. Smith is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from the Howard University College of Medicine in 1972. He then went on to complete his residency in family medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Smith has received several awards throughout his line of work, including Patients’ Choice Award in 2011, 2012 and 2016 and Compassionate Doctor Recognition in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
