Back in the early days of his academic career, he earned his medical degree from the New York Medical College in 1977. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at Bridgeport Hospital, and his fellowships in pulmonary disease at Mount Sinai Hospital and Brown University Affiliated Hospitals.

With over 45 years of experience in his field, Dr. Malanga is board-certified in pulmonary disease and internal medicine by the the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract.
