Get to know Neurologist Dr. William Beringer, who serves patients in Hawaii.
A seasoned neurologist, Dr. Beringer is the President & Managing Partner at Hawaii Brain & Spine, an Oahu based multi-specialty medical group focused on delivering care to patients with neurosurgical and spine related pain, numbness, and weakness.
He evaluates patients at three locations: Downtown Kailua, Honolulu at the St Francis Medical Complex, and Eva Beach at Queens West Medical Office Building. He also covers spine and neurosurgery trauma calls at The Queen’s Medical Center, Honolulu and at Adventist Health Castle, Kailua.
The study of motion has always fascinated Dr. Beringer. As a husband and father of four boys, private pilot, surfer, and occasional sprint tri-athlete, he is often in motion himself and understands how important mobility is to his patients.
His surgical philosophy is that while not every patient needs an operation to treat their ailments, if people do need surgical intervention, the approach should minimize collateral tissue damage. This reduces unnecessary injury to surrounding bone, ligaments, skin and nervous tissue so patients can rehabilitate faster with a better cosmetic result.
He has reverence for the trust patients and their loved ones place in him to intervene on pain, paralysis and major neurological disability. His academic interests include minimally invasive spine surgery, image guidance adjuncts for spine and brain navigation, and stereotactic radiosurgery.
Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Beringer graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to perform his residency in neurosurgery at Bromenn Regional / Advocate Medical Center, followed by his complex spine fellowship with Indianapolis Neurosurgical Group.
Until 2027, he is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the use of surgery to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
A Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (FACOS), Dr. Beringer is a member of the North American Spine Society, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the American Osteopathic Association.
Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.
Among Dr. Beringer’s most notable achievements include Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2011, 2016, 2017, 2018) and Patients’ Choice Award (2011, 2017, 2018).
On a more personal note, he speaks both English and Spanish.
