Get to know Geriatrician Dr. Adrienne D. Mims, who serves patients in Georgia.
Dr. Mims has been on a mission to improve healthcare in her community since she lost her beloved grandmother to cancer. The bond they shared led her to become board certified in geriatrics and family medicine. 30 plus years into her career, she has enjoyed caring for patients in a variety of settings and serving as a leader in her field.
“It’s a privilege to be there for seniors in sickness and in health and ensure their goals and wishes are honored. My favorite part is building relationships” said Dr. Mims.
In her current capacity, she brings her compassion and indefatigable energy to Rainmakers Strategic Solutions LLC, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO). As such, she collaborates with members of its various teams of professionals to expand Rainmakers’ excellent health care industry reputation for thought leadership and involvement in development and execution of key health care quality improvement initiatives and contracts, on diverse topics such as health equity, patient advocacy, value-based payments, and the Covid pandemic.
Prior to her current endeavours, she was on staff at JenCare Senior Medical Center, a family-owned primary and specialty care practice committed to delivering superior healthcare to Medicare-eligible seniors. As of 2018, it has 26 locations in Virginia, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, and Louisiana.
After studying zoology at George Washington University as an undergraduate, Dr. Mims went on to earn her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in family medicine at the Martin Luther King Jr./Charles Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, an experience that brought back memories of her grandmother and crystallized her decision to specialize in geriatrics.
Following a fellowship in geriatrics at the West Los Angeles Veterans’ Administration, she planned to practice in an academic setting. To enhance her research skills, she then earned her Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from the UCLA School of Public Health.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP) and a Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society (AGSF), Dr. Mims is an active member of the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Georgia State Medical Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Atlanta Medical Association, and the Medical Association of Atlanta.
In her professional experience, she is a board member of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. Geriatricians are primary care doctors who have additional training in treating older adults, especially those 65 and up.
Away from work, Dr. Mims enjoys time with her husband and their poodle, walks with friends, book clubs, dinner clubs, and concerts. She also loves to immerse herself in other cultures through international travel.
