Dr. Thodeson is a highly-regarded child neurologist at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. A child neurologist, or pediatric neurologist, is a doctor who treats children who have problems with their nervous system.  Dr. Thodeson’s areas of clinical interest include early childhood epileptic encephalopathies, specifically infantile spasms. 

According to their website, “Driscoll Children’s Hospital is a 191-bed pediatric tertiary care center with more than 30 medical and surgical specialties offering care throughout South Texas, including Corpus Christi, the Rio Grande Valley, Victoria, and Laredo. In 2020, Driscoll had almost 122,000 patient visits, including almost 28,000 patients seen at South Texas’ first emergency room created exclusively for children.”

From a research perspective, Dr. Thodeson concentrates his efforts on the genetic causes of childhood epilepsy. His research goal is to develop a platform to elucidate biological processes underlying the pathophysiology of pediatric epilepsy syndromes using stem cells. Earlier in his career, he served as an Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics/Division of Neurology at the Center for Translational Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.

Armed with an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, Dr. Thodeson acquired his medical degree in 2009 from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. He then went on to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA, where he completed both his residency in pediatrics (2009-2011) and his fellowship in child neurology (2011-2014). Furthermore, Dr. Thodeson is fellowship-trained in pediatric epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. 

Upon the completion of his training, Dr. Thodeson obtained three board certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) i.e., in neurology with added qualification in child neurology, epilepsy, and clinical neurophysiology. The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation that was founded in 1934 as a method of identifying qualified specialists in psychiatry and neurology. The ABPN is one of 24 member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Dr. Thodeson has received a number of professional recognitions including the 2016 Dr. Roger Rosenberg Outstanding Fellow Award, the 2010 Jeffery S Farkas Memorial Pediatric Intern Teaching Award, and the 2009 Outstanding Student in Neurology Award. 

Dr. Thodeson maintains hospital affiliations with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, and the Children’s Medical Center Dallas, all located in Dallas, Texas.
