Dr. Nascimento is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon on staff within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is also affiliated with the hospital’s Sports Medicine Center. 

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mass General provides high-quality, personalized care for every orthopaedic condition, including hip and knee arthritis, sports injuries, spinal deformities, musculoskeletal tumors and trauma, as well as hand, shoulder and foot disorders. Its Sports Medicine Center consists of a team of professionals providing treatment and rehabilitation for sports-related injuries for recreational, amateur, and professional sports.

In his current capacity, Dr. Nascimento is the Chief of Sports Medicine at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Tufts University School of Medicine, and an Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

He has served as Head Team Physician for several professional sports teams and has been the Head Team Physician for the Boston College Athletics since 2011. He has also been the Head Team Physician & Medical Director of Sports Medicine at Boston College since 2015. 

On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Nascimento received his Master of Science degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles and his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, followed by his fellowship in sports medicine at Boston University.

The doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the New England Shoulder & Elbow Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and a fellow member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Pertaining to his research efforts, Dr. Nascimento has an interest in novel techniques to decrease patient pain and narcotic medication using open and arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery. He is helping to pioneer new standards of care for addressing these issues. He also has interest in the biomechanics of ACL tears and the post-reconstructed knee, as well as optimum return to play criteria following shoulder and knee surgery.
