An exceptional psychiatrist, Dr. Berlin is the Founder and Director of the Sexual Behavior Consultant Unit, and serves as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with sexual disorders, such as pedophilia, voyeurism, and exhibitionism.
In addition, he is the Director of the National Institute for the Study, Prevention, and Treatment of Sexual Trauma, a free-standing private clinic providing care to patients with a variety of sexual disorders. The clinic was established in 1980 as a part of Johns Hopkins Hospital, and became free-standing in 1991.
Back in 1964, Dr. Berlin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. He then graduated with his Master of Science degree from Fordham University in 1966, and earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) from Dalhousie University in 1972.
Subsequently, he completed his medical education at the Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine in 1974, and served a clerkship at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was an intern at McGill University School of Medicine, Jewish General Hospital, and Children’s Hospital in Montreal. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he was Chief Resident, and served as an exchange resident at Maudsley Hospital in London, England.
As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in psychiatry by the the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Berlin is an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Medical Association, the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.
