Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Edmund G. Witkowski, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.

Dr. Witkowski is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who has been a partner with Suncoast Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine since the year 2000.

With offices throughout the state of Florida, including Venice and Englewood, Suncoast Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of athletic and degenerative conditions of the musculoskeletal system. The staff believe the most important aspects to providing quality care are establishing a relationship with patients, educating them regarding their condition, and then presenting them with the appropriate treatment options.

A 1990 graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Witkowski completed his internship at the Wright State University General Surgery Program in Ohio, and his residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in Lackland AFB, Texas. He then went on to complete his fellowship training in both sports medicine and adult reconstruction surgery (joint replacement) with Dr. Jesse C. Delee in San Antonio. He is the only orthopaedic surgeon in the Venice and Englewood area with fellowship training in adult reconstruction/joint replacement.

“Though I always look for nonsurgical solutions first, there are times when surgery is the best or only answer.  This doesn’t always mean the latest technique; sometimes the tried-and-true methods work better for some patients than more recent techniques. My medical education helps me make a proper diagnosis for each patient based on his or her needs.  I deal with injuries nonsurgically whenever practical to make sure your care is safe, effective, and comfortable.” as stated by the doctor.

His years in practice with Suncoast Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group, and the U.S. military (a Major in the United States Air Force – honorable discharge) have given him extensive experience in complex fracture care, joint replacement and revision surgery, as well as minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. Professionally, he has served as the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Pope AFB, North Carolina, and as a flight surgeon with 8th Special Operations Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida.

An Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor, Dr. Witkowski is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. They work in clinical and hospital settings.
