Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Subrahmanya Bhat, who serves patients in Stockbridge, Georgia.

Dr. Bhat is an experienced pulmonologist working alongside his wife and rheumatologist, Dr. Annapurna Bhat, at Bhat and Bhat MDs in Stockbridge, Georgia.

Locally, he is affiliated with Piedmont Henry Hospital and Southern Regional Medical Center.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Bhat graduated from Calicut Medical College with first class and received the prestigious Dr. Pisharody Memorial Gold Medal in Medicine. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull in 1987.

With years of experience, the doctor is board-certified in pulmonary disease, internal medicine, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Holding fellowship status, Dr. Bhat is a Fellow of American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

An active Rotarian, he serves as board member at Clayton State University, Hindu Temple of Atlanta, and Good Shepherd Clinic, serving underprivileged people. He also serves as President of the Association of Kerala Medical Graduates.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.

Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Bhat has won multiple community service awards and top physician awards, including Patients’ Choice Award (2016, 2015, 2013, 2011), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016, 2015, 2013, 2011), Top 10 Doctor – Metro Area (2014), Top 10 Doctor – State (2014), and On-Time Doctor Award (2016, 2015).

Having established several educational scholarships in Atlanta and in India, the Bhat family have started a foundation for community service, health, and education.

Happily married, he and his wife have 1 son, Kiran, who is a writer and world traveler.
