Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Sonke graduated with his medical degree from Erasmus Medical School in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1985. He then relocated to England, performing his internship in oncology at Princess Royal Hospital, his internship in emergency medicine at Hull Royal Infirmary, his internship in anesthesia at Royal Berkshire Hospital, and his internship in clinical chemistry at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
Furthering his training in New York, he performed his residency in nuclear anatomical and clinical pathology at Stony Brook University, his residency at Winthrop University Hospital, his residency in nuclear medicine at North Shore Hospital, and his residency in diagnostic radiology at New York Methodist Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in cancer research in Amsterdam, Holland.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in diagnostic radiology through the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.
Staying up to date in his field, Dr. Sonke is a member of the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the European Society of Radiology.
