Is it normal for ears to hurt after flying?
It is not normal, but it is common. A child's Eustachian tubes do not work as well as those of an adult. When an airplane lands, the air that left the middle ears when it went from runway elevation to 10,000 feet must go back as the plane goes from 10,000 feet to the new runway elevation. Failure to do that well causes pressure on the ear drum and pain. You might try having your child swallow liquids during descent or, even, spray their nose with Afrin 45 minutes before the landing plus swallowing liquids. This helps open the Eustachian tubes.
