  • Can a chiropractor help with spinal stenosis?

Yes, but find one who is a member of the ACA (acatoday.com). They are held to higher ethical standards. Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • There's still pain after cortisone. What should I do?

Cortisone is hit or miss as to whether or not it provides pain relief, and the doctor could have hit or missed the right injection spot. I see it work about 50% of the time with the first injection and much less with subsequent injections. The real question is -- what is the diagnosis? And has an MRI been done? Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • Is chiropractic treatment best as a complementary therapy?

Chiropractic is effective for conservative treatment of back pain, neck pain, headaches and pain involving the joints of the body. Check out a prospective chiropractor's website before seeing one. If they say they treat things other than those related to the muscles, joints, and nerves, look for a different chiropractor. Good luck, Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • Is a chiropractic consultation needed after a sports injury?

It depends on the diagnosis. He or she should do a comprehensive examination and then talk to you about options for treatment. At a minimum, reflexes should be checked, ranges of motion performed, orthopedic tests should be performed. If they don't do that, you should leave the office.  Good luck! Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • Can sciatica pain extend to my leg?

Yes, it can, but many different things can cause sciatica -- one of the most common from a herniated disc. I would get someone to look at it if I were you. Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • How can you relieve the pain from a pinched nerve?

Depends on what is causing the pinch. If the correct cause is diagnosed, an evidenced based chiropractor may be able to help. Try choosing a chiropractor who is a member of the American Chiropractic Association or the West Hartford Group. They are generally very good at diagnosing these conditions. Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic care help my baby's fussiness?

It doesn't--and this comes from a chiropractor. There are plenty of people and chiropractors who think they can help but what usually happens is that after 70 visits and 18 months (and lots of money) the child is less fussy.  No research shows chiropractic treatment did this--the child just outgrew it.  Don't waste your time and money.  Good luck!! Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • Can I exercise after a back adjustment?

I generally tell patients they can exercise after an injury only if painless. Hope that helps! READ MORE

  • Tinnitus and chiropractic care? Really?

Not that I know of. I haven't seen any research to show chiropractic care can help tinnitus. But I guarantee you can find a chiropractor who says they can help. My advice would be to stay away from such a chiropractor. And, of course, I'm a chiropractor. READ MORE

  • What is the difference between an osteopathic physician and chiropractor?

An osteopath, in the U.S., is virtually the same thing as a medical doctor. Some osteopaths have some training in manipulation and some provide spinal manipulation. Hope that helps. Dr. Simone READ MORE

  • Does scoliosis correct itself?

It depends on her age and how bad the scoliosis is. If above 15 degrees treatment may be warranted but often the doctor will evaluate every 6 months and see if it has progressed before deciding if and what treatment may be needed. READ MORE

  • How can I correct the hunch in my back?

That depends. Often this is caused by crossed syndrome – you can look it up on the Internet. But I would check with my doctor to make sure you don't have something more serious that could be causing compression fractures in your vertebrae. READ MORE

  • How does going to a chiropractor for ADHD help?

I am a chiropractor and I have seen no research to support spinal manipulation to help ADHD-- but I guarantee you you'll find chiropractors who will say they can help. My recommendation would be to stay away. READ MORE

  • Will I ever get relief pain from hip pain?

Possibly. It depends on what the actual problem is. It's not uncommon, due to ligamentous weakening and loss of muscle strength during pregnancy to have issues with your back and/or your hips. I would recommend you see somebody who performs a comprehensive examination and can pinpoint the problem. If you see a chiropractor and they do not do a full workup you should go elsewhere. READ MORE

  • Can I go on a treadmill or go cycling with back pain?

That depends on what is causing the stiffness and pain. Often the cause is not serious and using a treadmill or cycling would help but you need to see a professional to make sure there isn't a serious problem like disc herniation, spinal infection, cancer, etc. READ MORE

  • Do chiropractic adjustments help with chronic lower back pain?

Often they do help but what appears to help more is when the chiropractor or physical therapist does a comprehensive examination to, first rule out serious problems, and help with specific exercises and things your husband may be doing at home or at work that could be making his condition worse or even causing his back pain. If you go to a chiropractor who only provides spinal manipulation you're probably not going to find a long-term solution to your husband's problems. READ MORE

  • After running, my ankles get a shooting pain. Can a chiropractor help?

Possibly. But I would recommend you see a professional to diagnose what is causing the pain. Shooting pain in both ankles concerns me more than if it was only in 1 ankle. READ MORE

  • Is Spinal Manipulation and Osteopathic Manipulation one and the same?

They are basically the same thing, although the "conservative" chiropractors will tell you they are different--that the chiropractic "adjustment" is performed with some magical intent (of course they won't tell you that). I worked with an osteopath for 10 years and what I noticed about the way he used spinal manipulation was that his manipulation was very general--treating an entire area vs. what I did, which was very specific based on my examination. My recommendation would be to use a chiropractor, but find one who belongs to the American Chiropractic Association, West Hartford Group, or has a certification in sports chiropractic (credentials are CCSP or DABCSP). If you have an osteopath you already know, just ask him or her if they commonly use spinal manipulation in their practices (many don't). Hope that helps. Michael P. Simone, DC  READ MORE

  • Will yoga help in treating my hip pain?

Most likely, but it is generally more important to strengthen the muscles to increase stability to the pelvis. READ MORE

  • How to fix bad posture?

Tough question not knowing anything about you. First of all, if you are older, you could have osteoporosis, compression fracture(s), etc. If you are healthy with no problems at all, sometimes just being aware you need to keep your shoulders back (which will strengthen some muscles near the shoulder blades) along with a simple lower thoracic exercise might help. But, again, it really depends on some of your personal factors. My advice would be to see either a physical therapist and/or a chiropractor (especially one with a rehab or sports medicine certification).  Hope that helps, Michael P. Simone, DC READ MORE
