Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Joseph L. Jorizzo, who serves patients in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Jorizzo diagnoses skin problems and develops unique treatment plans for each individual patient. “My passion throughout my career in dermatology has been to care for adult and pediatric patients with complex medical dermatology problems. My research and publications focus on dermatologic manifestations of internal medical diseases. I also care for patients with common dermatologic problems of skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes” he stated.
Professionally, he is on staff at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Brenner Children’s Hospital, both of which are located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Alongside his professional roles, Dr. Jorizzo serves as Professor of Clinical Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, New York. He also remains a Professor, Former and Founding Chair of the Dermatology Department at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In regards to his educational background, he earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massacchusets. Thereafter, he went on to complete his internship in internal medicine and his residency in dermatology at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. He also completed his fellowship at St. John’s Hospital Dermatology Institute in London, England.
Shortly after, he became board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). Since its inception in 1932, the ABD has certified over 15,000 physicians in dermatology, dermatopathology, and pediatric dermatology.
In addition to having been on a myriad councils, committees, and advisory boards, Dr. Jorizzo has been on the editorial boards of the Archives of Dermatology, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology – among others. Additionally, he has authored and co-authored over 200 articles and abstracts, including chapters in major rheumatology and gastroenterology books, and has spoken at hundreds of dermatology meetings in the United States and around the world.
