Moreover, he treats patients of all ages ranging from children and adolescents with spine problems such as scoliosis to older individuals with osteoporotic vertebral fractures. Dr. Brotea completed his fellowship spine training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation – The Institute for Spine Health in Cleveland, Ohio. First, he graduated Valedictorian of his class with a chemical engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Rutgers, New Jersey. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at New York Medical College – Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. Dr. Brotea is currently serving patients at Specialty Orthopaedics in Harrison, NY, whose mission is to provide comprehensive treatment for the full range of musculoskeletal disorders and conditions in a caring and responsive clinical atmosphere. He takes pride in fully evaluating each and every patient himself, spending the time to review radiographic imaging, diagnosis, and each treatment option including surgical ones. Pre-operatively, he spends an hour with each patient and their family members detailing the surgery, post-operative care and treatment plan. Patients do not leave the consultations until all their questions and concerns have been addressed. Dr. Brotea is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, White Plains Hospital, Lawrence Hospital, and Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Brotea is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). Founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, autonomous organization, the ABOS exists to serve the best interest of the public and the medical profession by establishing educational standards for orthopaedic residents and by evaluating the initial and continuing qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics, also spelled orthopaedics, is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Brotea has extensive training in handling complex spine instrumentation and spine-related tumors, infections, deformity and fractures. He also has experience with some of the newest surgical interventions for the spine, including special minimally invasive surgical techniques that allow him to perform major spine procedures through much smaller incisions, use of a robot intra-operatively/computer navigated placement of instrumentation.
