He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular/Molecular Biology from California State University at Northridge, and obtained a dual degree in medicine and law from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Harvard Medical School’s Cambridge Hospital, where he was Chief Resident, before returning to Los Angeles, where he completed two postdoctoral fellowships at UCLA. Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being. HIV is an autoimmune disorder that is highly preventable by prescribing pre-exposure prophylaxis medication or through treatment as prevention. HIV is still highly stigmatized and has a disparate impact on communities of color.

As a testament to his success, Dr. King has received several awards for leadership, volunteerism and community support. His work and lectures have been recognized both nationally and internationally in South Africa, Uganda and Ghana.

He is married and has two young daughters.
