Dr. Hook is a respected professional in the field of cardiovascular / thoracic surgery and heart transplantation. He joined Lutheran Medical Group (LMG) in January of 2011 when his former group, Indiana Ohio Heart, joined LMG.

Born in Durban, South Africa, Dr. Hook graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1978. He then went on to perform his internships in general surgery and internal medicine at Edendale Hospital. He joined the South African military in 1980, rising to the rank of full lieutenant and earning a diploma in aviation medicine. Upon completion of his military obligation, he practiced as a primary care physician in England and Canada while completing Basic Medical Sciences for Surgeons studies at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, England.
During Dr. Hook’s residency at Berkshire Medical Center, he won the Zupancic Award for Surgical Excellence & the Tracy Award for outstanding performance in vascular surgery. During his fellowship at Tulane Medical Center, he focused on thoracic, trauma & adult and pediatric congenital heart surgeries and transplantation.
Treating conditions in the heart, lungs, and chest, the doctor is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
