How much exercise should I get regularly to help lower my cholesterol?
The American Heart Association recommends up to 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity exercise. On a scale of perceived work, this would be about a 4--6/10 level of intensity. Another option is 75minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity (more like an 8-9/10 level of perceived work). I would combine moderate and vigorous work loads if approved by your doctor. Increase your work load gradually. Moderate-intensity exercise includes: gardening, dancing, brisk walking (American Heart Association web site). Vigorous exercise would include heavy yard work (digging/hoeing), tennis, swimming laps, running and hiking uphill, etc READ MORE
What is the treatment for low blood pressure?
First, you have to determine WHY your blood pressure is low; then treat the cause. Some patients naturally have lower blood pressure. I have several patients with normal systolic (top reading) blood pressures in the 90's. Are you having symptoms with your blood pressure being "low" and what is "low" to you? For some "low blood pressure" can be below 110. It is very individualized and should be reviewed with your medical provider for more answers. READ MORE
