Dr. Schafranek is an interventional cardiologist with Hunterdon Medical Center, a 178-bed non-profit community hospital located in Raritan Township, New Jersey near Flemington. Hunterdon Medical Center was founded in 1946 and opened in 1953, a culmination of efforts by the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture to provide rural medical care to the region. Today, Hunterdon exists to prevent disease, illness, and injury; to seek cures; relieve pain; give comfort, and inspire a healthy way of living. The hospital provides a full range of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic inpatient and outpatient hospital and community health services. Furthermore, Dr. Schafranek is the Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Hunterdon Medical Center, as well as the Director of the Primary PCI program. After completing a residency training program in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, Dr. Schafranek went on to complete a fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases & Hypertension and Interventional Cardiology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. Dr. Schafranek is board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, which is a nonprofit medical association established in 1949 and professional home for the entire cardiovascular team. He is also a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention, which promotes excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular medicine through education and representation, and the advancement of quality standards to enhance patient care. Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology. Dr. Schafranek specializes in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating diseases or conditions of the cardiovascular system. He performs not only cardiac interventions but is also well experienced in peripheral vascular interventions. He also practices preventative medicine, helping patients maintain heart-healthy lives.
