Why do chiropractors use activators?
Some Chiropractors use the Activator and some don’t! It is a mechanical way to adjust the spine as opposed to manual adjustments done by hand. It is based off of preference of the patient, in my opinion. Whatever helps the patient the most, that is the method of treatment that should be used. Some Chiropractors only use the Activator and are still able to help a lot of people! READ MORE
Do slipped ribs show up on x-rays?
Yes, they can show up on X-ray. It is a relatively tricky diagnosis as ribs can be difficult to see on imaging whether it be an X-ray or CT scan. If you feel like you do have a slipped rib, X-ray would be the first place to start. READ MORE
Do professional athletes use chiropractors?
Yes they do. Every NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL team has a team chiropractor. Most major universities also have an on campus Chiropractor that treat the athletes or at least have a Chiropractor close by in their town that they refer to. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor fix wrist pain?
Potentially. A chiropractor would be a good place to start to give you a diagnosis. Once you have a diagnosis then we would know where you would need to be for treatment. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor fix a herniated disc?
Yes. You need an office that has spinal decompression. That is the only way to truly fix a disc outside of having surgery. READ MORE
How long does chiropractic adjustment last?
Generically, initial adjustments will last for 1-4 days depending on how severe the problem is and what each patient does in terms of work, exercise, etc. The better the problem gets, the longer it will last. I have patients on maintenance programs that are good for 6 months, some are good for a few weeks, so it varies quite a bit. Hope this helps. READ MORE
Is it dangerous to crack your neck?
It can be. You can strain muscle and/or sprain ligaments in your neck much easier than the think. The motion of cracking your own neck can do that. Also, when you crack your own neck, you are moving joints that are already moving properly. If you could crack your own neck and the correct segment that needed to release would do that on its own, I wouldn’t have a job. READ MORE
Is it ok for a chiropractor to crack your spine?
Yes it is completely safe. The ‘crack’ is gas releasing from the joint as the Chiropractor is freeing up the joint in order for it to function the way that it is supposed to. READ MORE
Is a massage or chiropractor better for sciatica?
The first place to start would be with a Chiropractor. The sciatic nerve can be impinged from either disc or joint from the spine, which a Chiropractor would be able to fix. Otherwise, the sciatic nerve can be impinged from muscle which a massage therapist or physical therapist would be able to fix. Hope this helps! READ MORE
How long does a chiropractic adjustment for neck pain last?
It definitely varies patient to patient. Initially, you might need an adjustment more frequently to get you on track. After you are pain free and we are maintaining, some patients I see every few weeks, some people are good with quarterly adjustments and some people I see twice a year like the dentist. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor fix kyphosis?
Yeah, Chiropractors can help with, if not fully fix hyperkyphosis. A lot of the work will be in retraining the musculature around the spine once it is moving properly to give you a new muscle memory. Being 46, the healing process will take a little longer honestly, but it definitely can be corrected. Hope this helps READ MORE
Is there a specific chiropractic treatment for neck pain?
Not necessarily. Every patient responds better to different types and styles of adjustments. It isn’t one size fits all. I personally would recommended Gonstead technique. So look for someone in your area that is certified in Gonstead. Hope this helps. READ MORE
How young is too young to see a chiropractor?
No, it is not. However, not all chiropractors will see kids that young. Look for a pediatric Chiropractor which might limit your options if you are in a rural area. In a bigger city you should have multiple options of Chiropractors. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor help a herniated cervical disc?
To fix a disc bulge in your neck, you will need to do spinal decompression. Chiropractors or physical therapists will have this. It is essentially traction of your neck. Regular adjustments from a chiropractor will help take pressure off and give you symptomatic relief. However, you will need the spinal decompression to fully fix the problem. READ MORE
How long does a chiropractic session last?
On your first visit, it may take anywhere from a half hour to an hour. It all depends on what the Chiropractor does in terms of examination, taking X-rays, etc. READ MORE
What can be the tingling in hand be?
Numbness, tingling, burning or any pain that travels is always a nerve issue. The nerve can impinged from the cervical spine (your neck) from joint issues, disc bulges or degeneration. The nerve also has to travel through muscle in order to get down your arm from your neck. So, the nerve can be impinged from muscle in the thoracic outlet (your upper back) or can be impinged through tunnels in your elbows, wrists or hands, most commonly your carpal tunnel. First step, would be to see a Chiropractor, physical therapist or your primary care provider to figure out where the nerve impingement is stemming from. READ MORE
Can chiropractic treatment ease sciatica pain?
Yes it definitely can. You can start by seeing a Chiropractor and obtaining either an X-ray or MRI. First route would be an X-ray, that would show the joints of the lower back and pelvis as well as the foramina (the holes where the nerves travel through) and the disc space. You won’t see the disc itself on an X-ray. If the X-ray is inconclusive, an MRI would be the next step to see the lower back discs in more detail. The sciatica nerve can be impinged from a disc bulge in the lower back, joint misalignment in the lower back or degeneration which would create bone spurs. All of those conditions can be helped and/or corrected with chiropractic treatment. The sciatica nerve also has to travel through muscle around your glutes in order to get down your leg. Primarily, your piriformis muscle which sits at the top of your butt. So, if the spine itself looks fine on imaging, you could be suffering from ‘piriformis syndrome’ which is basically over active muscle impinging the nerve. That could still be chiropractic treatment or potentially physical therapy and/or massage therapy. Hope this helps! READ MORE
What is the difference between a physical therapist and a chiropractor?
There is a lot of overlap between both professions. Initially, your best bet would be to get an X-ray. That would rule out any kind of fracture from the fall. That would also show what the problem is so that we could get a diagnosis. Then it would tell us who you would need to see in order to fix the problem. Very generically, Chiropractor’s bread and butter includes joint, nerve and disc related issues. Physical Therapist’s bread and butter includes muscle, tendon and post surgical rebab. There is a lot of overlap between the two, I personally do a lot of muscle and tendon work with Chiropractic. I know a lot of good Physical Therapist who do joint work. So once you get a true diagnosis, find someone that you trust, which might include shopping around a few different offices, then stick with them. Hope this helps. READ MORE
Can chiropractic help with nerve pain?
Yes, Chiropractic can help with nerve pain. The biggest concern and hardest thing is figuring out where the nerve is impinged. It can be from the spine, joints, disc, muscle etc. At my office, I typically don’t take x-rays of patients under 18 years old. However, to truly figure out what the underlying cause is, imaging would be a good place to start. READ MORE
I have lower back stiffness. What could it be?
First step would be to get imaging, an x-ray most likely initially to see the structure then a follow up MRI to see the soft tissue. That would give a diagnosis to the problem and would tell you who you would need to see to get it fixed instead of just masking the pain with meds. READ MORE
