Dr. Anthony Benjamin Gonzalez D.D.S.'s Expert Contributions
  • Do I have a gum disease?

Yes. Find a dentist that does lanap. Can save your teeth. Implants and dentures can also be an option. READ MORE

  • Can you get dental anesthesia for a filling?

Yes. If you’re nervous you can have any type of sedation to make you comfortable. You may have an extra fee but it’s well worth it to avoid worsening dental health. READ MORE

  • What is the best teeth whitening treatment at the dentist?

Kor is the best. Dr. Anthony B. Gonzalez, DDS, PLLC READ MORE

  • Are zirconia crowns more expensive than porcelain?

They can be, and insurance really only wants to pay for a metal equivalent, so you'll end up with a balance, but that's just how they are sometimes; they pay for the least, not the best! READ MORE

  • What foods can't you eat with dentures?

First, it's best to just get used to wearing them. It's a big transition of learning to chew, speak, and swallow with them. Your muscles have to get used to them all over again. Good luck! READ MORE

  • Is fluoride toothpaste safe?

Yes, I drill fewer and fewer teeth today because my patients use prescription strength if needed. I wish they wouldn't be so good with their teeth! Now I'm bored and can't do drilling. READ MORE

  • Is ridge augmentation possible at my age?

There are many factors to lead to a successful surgery. Especially in a part of the body we have to chew on daily! But it can work, yes. Dr. Anthony B. Gonzalez, DDS, PLLC READ MORE

  • Does articaine have any side effects?

It’s not uncommon. It’s not fun, but it usually clears up. See the surgeon in about 3-5 days if it persists. Dr. Anthony B. Gonzalez, DDS, PLLC READ MORE

  • What is the best whitening toothpaste?

Whitening toothpastes only go so far. The best whitening is Kor. Everything else is not as effective. Dr. Anthony B. Gonzalez, DDS, PLLC READ MORE

  • Does an impacted tooth require surgery?

Yes. And because of the location usually requires sedation. That gets you the best result. READ MORE

  • Is oil pulling ever recommended by dentists?

Typically oil pulling requires 20 minutes of swishing oil. Most daily dental routines take no longer than 4-5 minutes when including brushing flossing and gargling. There have been studies showing that oil pulling was no more effective than normal methods of oral hygiene. To me, whatever motivates you to keep your smile perfect works for me! READ MORE

  • I had a root canal and the same tooth is hurting again. What should I do?

Pain after a root canal can be frustrating but not uncommon. Sometimes there may have been an extra nerve that couldn’t be seen by regular magnification. You may need to see a specialist to check for any other nerves that are still there. READ MORE

  • My nephew has one tooth erupting and he is just 1 month old. Is it normal?

It’s normal. They’re called neonatal or just natal teeth. Nursing may be a challenge. Consult with a lactation specialist or pediatrician. Use a warm towel to clean it nightly. You may use just the tiniest smear of Training toothpaste, but warm moist towel is fine. READ MORE

  • How should I maintain my gum health?

Daily flossing is important to prevent bacteria to begin colonizing between your teeth and beginning the process of early gum disease, aka gingivitis. As Ambassador Spock would say, “Live Long, Floss Often” READ MORE

  • What should I do for my chipped tooth?

It really depends on the condition of your tooth, the tooth and teeth it bites on and any previous treatments you may have had. If you already had crowns, root canals or fillings, you may need a new crown or even a root canal if the tooth split. If it’s a corner that chipped off, and there isn’t any decay, then you may get away with a filling... however, if the lower tooth is hitting it harder than the other teeth, it may need to be addressed too. Dr G READ MORE

  • Is a root canal in pregnancy safe?

It is safe to have treatment during pregnancy as long as X-rays are taken with a shield and you aren't exposed to too much epinephrine. Epinephrine is part of the local anesthesia used. Most won't use it or just use very little. Teeth pain can cause a lot of stress which is defintely not needed during pregnancy! Some dentists may just relieve pressure on the nerve. Some might complete the entire root canal. I believe treating it is better than not at this point.  Dr G. READ MORE

  • How effective is clove oil to reduce tooth pain?

It’s true, but just a dab will do. All it does is tone down the pain. It doesn’t heal anything so be sure to get it checked out! READ MORE

  • Can effects from TMJ ever be reversed?

Joint noises can be normal, sometimes if they get painful that can be an issue. I would recommend having your bite evaluated and getting a custom fit bite guard that help balance your teeth joint and muscles to get them in the best position. You may need an initial splint to relax all the muscles and joint first, that's normal. I hope you feel better! - Anthony Gonzalez, DDS READ MORE

  • Front tooth cavity

To make a filling last longer, you can avoid foods that stain teeth like red wine, italian foods with marinara sauces, sodas, and avoiding smoking for those that smoke. More permanent solutions are veneers that last for a long time with proper hygiene. READ MORE

  • How often to use mouth wash?

The fluoride itself isn't as important as getting off any acidic residue off your teeth. Rinse out your mouth after sodas, teas, etc. to get your saliva back neutral from acidic. Once a day at night should be good for mouth rinse. Keep your saliva neutral! READ MORE
