He earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 1972 and did his internship and residency at both Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Furthering his training, he completed his postdoctoral fellowship in gastroenterology at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Specializing in issues relating to the digestive tract, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
