With years of experience in the field of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Sohn Jr.’s clinical interests include articular cartilage restoration, arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, hip, and knee, as well as care of athletes. What’s more, his research interests encompass articular cartilage basic science and knee biomechanics. 

He is currently affiliated with The University of Toledo Medical Center’s (UTMC) Orthopaedic Center in Toledo, Ohio. Since 1964, UTMC has been serving the health needs of the Toledo community. The team of professionals affiliated with the Orthopaedic Center have extensive experience in a full range of orthopedic specialties. They diagnose and treat a variety of bone, muscle, and joint issues, as well as offer the latest treatment options to give patients what is necessary for the best possible outcomes.

Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Sohn Jr. serves as Principal Reviewer of the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Principal Investigator of NeoCart Clinical Trials, Editor-in-Chief of Orthopaedic Risk Manager, Course Instructor at Smith and Nephew Hip Arthroscopy, Faculty Advisor of the Benjamin Rush Society for Medical Ethics, and Head Team Orthopaedic Physician of the University of Toledo Football. He is also on the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Executive Committee of the Ohio Orthopaedic Society, as well as the Interdisciplinary Committee of the Joint JD/MD Program at the University of Toledo.

Dr. Sohn began his medical career when he earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego in 2002. He then went on to complete his residency in sports medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, followed by his fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  

Thereafter, he became board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.  

Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
