Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Stacey L. Valentine, who serves patients in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Dr. Valentine is a board-certified pediatrician who can be found on staff in the Department of Pediatrics - Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Children’s Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. There, she provides moderate and deep sedation to children undergoing procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as supervises a team of medical students and pediatric residents.

Since 2012, she has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine in Worcester. Prior to her current role, she served as an Instructor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine - Division of Critical Care Medicine at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts. 

On the subject of her professional development, she serves in multiple leadership positions, including Vice-Chair of the Department of Pediatrics Academic Affairs, Chair of the Blood Network Blood Management Section and the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators Blood Network, Co-Chair of the Transfusion and Anemia eXpertise Initiative, Vice-Chair of the Department of Pediatrics Office of Faculty Affairs, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management.

In addition to holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Dr. Valentine earned her medical degree from The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont in Burlington in 2003, followed by her Master of Public Health degree in Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston in 2011.

From 2003 until 2006, she completed her residency in pediatrics as part of the Boston Combined Residency Program and from 2007 until 2010, she completed his fellowship in pediatric critical care at Boston Children’s Hospital. Subsequently, from 2009 until 2011, she completed the Harvard-wide Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship Program.

Among the doctor’s many achievements, she is a Fellow of the Society of Pediatric Research, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Chest Physicians. She is also a member of the Society of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators Network, the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Investigators Blood Network, the Northeastern Pediatric Critical Care Research Consortium.

Furthermore, Dr. Valentine has earned several awards and recognitions throughout her career, including the Clinical Research Award from the Massachusetts Medical Society Research Symposium in 2006, the Fred Lovejoy Research Award from the Boston Children’s Hospital in 2006, the Fellow Research Award from the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Investigators Network in 2009, the Alumni Association Trainee Award for Excellence in Research from Boston Children’s Hospital in 2011, the Outstanding Clinical Educator Award from the Pediatric Med/Peds Resident Class of 2014, and the Society for Critical Care Medicine Presidential Citation in 2019, among many others. 

The doctor is board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Founded in 1933, the ABP is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certification is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence. She is also certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support Provider.

The author of peer and non-peer-reviewed publications, books, and book chapters, Dr. Valentine has been an invited speaker for presentations pertaining to her field on a regional, national, and international level. In addition to her committee assignments and administrative services, her community service role involved being a Mentor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst - Premedical Society Symposium from 2013 to 2015. 

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. As a pediatrician, Dr. Valentine examines, diagnoses, and treats children of all ages with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses. She understands that children change rapidly and they must be approached with an appreciation for their stage of physical and mental development.
