Born in Nicaragua, Dr. Silva completed his medical degree at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua. He did his internship in internal medicine and his residency at the Catholic Medical Centers of Brooklyn and Queens. He then completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the same institute, and later a second fellowship in critical care medicine at Montefiore Medical Center.
With over four decades of experience, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, geriatric medicine, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Furthermore, he is board-certified in undersea and hyperbaric medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). The ABPM is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues “certificates of special knowledge” in the specialty of preventive medicine.
